Gayatri Rajapatni was a shadow queen behind her daughter, Tribhuwana Tunggadewi. She refused to sit on the throne because she had became monk. However, when she passed away, the Queen Tunggadewi yield her throne to his son, Hayam Wuruk, thus people wonder whether it was Gayatri who actually ruled Majapahit.
During Tunggadewi/Gayatri, Majapahit expanded their territory, conquering the other islands. Gayatri herself was the fourth daughter of the late Kertanegara, the last king of Singhasari who had successfully conquered Sumatera.
